Birthday Dresses for Dummies (aka men)

This is an educational post for any of the men that may be reading this or stumble upon this by some random chance…

I had a hilarious conversation with Josh this weekend on this matter and it became very clear to me we needed to have a quick lesson.

Noun: The Birthday Dress

Male definition: a dress you wear to dinner on your birthday

Female definition: an extra special dress you wear to a fancy birthday dinner with your partner or girlfriends that lets everyone at the restaurant know you’re celebrating. It also can be a manifestation of what you hope this next year will bring you.

It really is as simple as that but naturally you know I have more to say about this LOL

As a fashion girlie this is one of those cerulean sweater moments #IYKYK where I can personally say a birthday dress doesn’t happen by chance. In my experience they take time and effort to curate, second guess, ponder, let sit in your cart for a day, decide on what shoes you’d wear and then FINALLY decide to go for it…but when you find it…boy oh boy do you know it.

And it’s funny how much those dresses end up saying about who you were that year. I mean, it’s good not to stay stagnant, and I love looking back and seeing how my style has evolved right along with me. Dare I say it just keeps getting better with age??? ;)

Tbh It’s not really about the dress at all. It’s about choosing something that makes you feel extra special for one night and celebrating the version of yourself walking into another year of possibilities.

So, men, the next time the woman in your life tells you she needs a birthday dress, please understand: she does not simply need a dress to wear on her birthday.

She needs THE birthday dress. Do yourself a favor and trust the process.
