Romanticize the Damn Cucumber
I’m basically dating a chef (salivating proof below). No like for real my crab is SUCH a good cook and I thank god for his gift every single day. Me on the other hand…I’m a world class dishwasher lmaooo
sadly my little chef isn’t with me every day of the week so I’m left to fend for myself #girldinner. As of late I’ve been working to try out some new recipes and lowkey get excited about cooking for 1. It’s not fun if I’m honest and it is VERY easy to just reach for an adult lunchable #charcuteriebord buttt I think I may have finally cracked the code!!
COOKIE - FREAKIN - CUTTERS
Now I know what you may be thinking…Mady you’re almost 33 years old why on earth would you be using cookie cutters to make a salad and more importantly WHY do your cumbers need to be in the shape of a flower. Because it brought me SO MUCH JOYYYY!!! Let me set the stage for you…candle burning on the kitchen island, jazz music playing, me carefully crafting the cutest little keto salad I could imagine #chefskiss.
It may be corny but this kind of food whimsy is doing something for me. It was not only very fulfilling to make something visually appealing, but it was also a very filling dish! Easy to make and a good source of protein and fiber.
Trust me, I fully recognize the salad would have tasted exactly the same if I had just cut up the cucumber like a normal person. But would I have had as much fun making it? Absolutely not.
We can be so focused on making our lives easier, faster and more efficient that we forget we’re also allowed to make them more delightful. Even when no one else is there to see it. Scratch that…ESPECIALLY when no one else is there to see it.
So yes, I will be spending an extra 4 minutes cutting my vegetables into tiny flowers from here on out. Because apparently the secret to getting me excited about cooking for one wasn’t a new recipe or becoming a domestic goddess overnight.
It was a $5 pack of cookie cutters from you guessed it…hobby lobby!!!
Design a more colorful life, yall. Even if it starts with a cucumber ;)
