Confessions of a Depop Addict

I don’t even know how I got started on Depop but I’ll be the first to admit it’s been a slippery slope ever since I made an account LOL also this is not sponsored in any way but if this somehow comes across the right persons desk….HOLLA AT UR GURLLL!!!

If you’re not familiar with this incredible app it’s an online marketplace where the girlies can sell new, and used items that likely at one point sparked joy. My FAVORITE part about this shopping experience is that you can make offers on items. I have no shame in saying I’m notorious for making lowball offers and comically enough I have a pretty good success rate.

Depop thrives on girl math. At the point items make it onto the app my theory is that it’s better to get SOME money back vs nothing at all. WHICH I’m ready to take full advantage of. Also i would MUCH rather support female entrepreneurs vs a bald man who already has wayyyyy too much money #houseofbesos

Over the years I have shifted from “omg I could never reware outfits” to I’m building out a capsule collection and it’s actually not that deep. And when I say capsule collection I obviously do NOT mean all neutral basics that all coordinate perfectly with each other. I mean have you met me??? I mean a collection of pieces that feel very me. Things I’m genuinely excited to pull back out of my closet and wear again and again. And weirdly enough, Depop has become one of my favorite places to find them.

Instead of constantly looking for what’s new or trending, I’ve started hunting for what I actually LOVE. Like an old Farm Rio print, or a vintage Rebecca minkoff bag that suddenly feels new again. Things that are sometimes wildly specific that someone else decided they were done with but I’ve decided will now become a foundational part of my personality. Like these custom embroidered Chanel jeans…like you’ve GOT to be kidding me!?!!!!!

There’s also something extremely satisfying about finding THE thing for a fraction of what it originally cost. This is a trait my mom passed down for me for sure. It feels less like shopping and more like a sport. Perhaps this is my version of sports betting LOL. I make offers. I research retail. I wait. I pounce. Frankly, ESPN should consider coverage on this.

This is my favorite part of shopping secondhand. My closet doesn’t have to constantly turn over to feel exciting. I just want a collection of things that make getting dressed in the morning feel fun regardless of whether they’re from this season or were previously living in some girl named Chloe’s closet in Ohio.

Someone else’s “I’m over it” can very easily become my “OH MY GOD I’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS.” And if I can get her to accept 40% below asking? That’s between me, her and the Depop gods #blessed
