Happy Hours ARE Important, Actually
Having friendships as an adult is hard work. At this point in my life I’m the busiest I’ve ever been and so are my friends. No like I can’t make this up…trying to find a weekend where a group of people are all free is basically like trying to negotiate a peace treaty these days. Damn near impossible!
Which is all the reason why the time you do get to spend with friends is so important. Me and 2 of my girlfriends at work have started doing monthly happy hours (S/O Delaney and Jamie!!!). Yes, we leave work a tad early to do this and yes I fully recommend you start blocking your work calendar to do so.
As we were chatting this last Wednesday it really hit me how nice it is to just be around girlies that just freaking get it. We gab about work, what’s new, what we are watching…I mean let’s be real the topic of conversation can go from one squirrel monument to the next #girlhood but I think that’s what makes it so great. Theres no set agenda or topics to cover the conversations just flow and the vibes are high. In adulthood I feel like sometimes those moments can feel few and far imbetween at times which is why I’d encourage you to make the time and priotoze it the same way in which you do your work.
Yes, I know you…you take a lot of pride in your work, so why don’t you take that same amount of pride in your relationships (omg that went very shots fired real quick).
But seriously. The emails will still be there tomorrow (sadly) and there will always be another meeting, another deadline, another thing that feels urgent (to someone else LMAO). The random Wednesday happy hour where you laugh until your stomach hurts about something that would make absolutely no sense to anyone outside of the group chat? Those are the things worth making room for.
So block the calendar. Leave work a little early. Order the $19 glass of wine that is very much not on happy hour #IYKYK Celebrate the fact that somehow, in the middle of all the adult bullshit, you found people you genuinely like doing life with #brbcrying
That feels pretty damn important to me :)
