Consider this your unconventional materials challenge !!!

With it officially holiday season in the aisles of hobby lobby I thought this was the perfect time to share a little DIY I did last year using some Christmas ornaments of all things.

Now if you’re a project runway junkie like me you LOVE the unconventional materials challenge. It is so fascinating to see how the designers can turn ordinary objects and materials into high fashion. Like what do you MEAN that dress was 30 trash bags!?! But I digress…

The moment I saw these little gummy bear ornaments I knew I was going to use them to make a fun art piece for my living room. And yes, my living room looks exactly as you picture it #LOL

After about 7 hobby lobby trips later I had sourced enough bears in the colors needed to create the random pattern me and the robot had decided on. In terms of the actual creation process it wasn’t too terribly involved. Total project ended up only costing $75.

Step 1: remove tags and ornament hanging elements LOL

Step 2: paint the canvas

Step 3: hot glue the bears to the canvas (I eyeballed it tbh)

Step 4: hot glue cowboy hats onto the bears

Let this be your friendly reminder that you don’t have to default to Amazon or Etsy for wall art. You can make some pretty cool shit yourself right at home.

So the next time you’re wandering the aisles of Hobby Lobby and something completely random catches your eye, consider this your unconventional materials challenge. You never know when 30 trash bags or in my case, a small army of gummy bears in cowboy hats might become some pretty awesome art.
