Make the Things

BREAKING NEWS: the 3rd volume of Mad Colorful was finalized and printed this week. I don’t think yall realize how much I enjoy making these. There is something so special about having complete creative control (insert grinch smirk here). What started as a fever dream has manifested into something I AND others look forward to receiving every single quarter. It’s very special and near and dear to my heart.

A few things I’ve learned during this process:

Quality over qty - LOL at me thinking this would be something I would get out monthly. Realistic expectations are totally humbling and don’t make this mean any less because I pivoted to once a quarter.
USPS is silly - those in my inner circle know I’ve been beefing with the post office for almost 10 years (lmaoo it’s a long story). Patience pants are a requirement but I know these will arrive in your mailboxes…eventually
Perfectly imperfect is OKAY - there’s likely always going to be something I could have tweaked or changed or LOL spelled correctly but it is OKAY at the end of the day #nobodycares
Putting yourself out there is scary but worth it - it’s cheesy and perhaps cringey but creating and sharing things with others is very fulfilling and I’m glad I put my big girl panties on and just did the damn thing
Being yourself is COOL - living and doing things that are authentic to YOU is such a vibe. Frankly it’s when I feel the most alive and aligned to my purpose.

Designing a colorful life isn’t about getting it right on the first try. It’s about giving yourself permission to try in the first place. It’s about following the ideas that make you feel a little more like yourself even when they’re weird, overly ambitious, or slightly cringe.

Three volumes in, I think that might be my favorite thing Mad Colorful has taught me: the things that feel the most you are usually the things worth making.

So make them and let this be the sign you’ve been looking for to do it :)
